The default application for finding things in Mac OSX and later is Finder.
Finder is available as standard by clicking the docking, or as a pre-configuring short cut using the Mac command Key + Space , a small window should pop out and you can type a partial name and see the suggested completions.
Finder is an easy to use and effective search tool. When used via the short cut it works so accurately it is hardly neccesary to add menu items to the doc at all.
